Scoliosis Treatment in Vancouver: Massage Therapy and Chiropractic
What is scoliosis?
The adult spine has curves that go forwards and back. These curves are known as the cervical lordosis, thoracic kyphosis, and lumbar lordosis. Scoliosis is when the spine develops atypical curves going side to side. A scoliosis curve can range from mild to severe. The mild to moderate forms of scoliosis may go unnoticed or may be accompanied with some neck and back pain. The changes in the spinal curve may lead to the spinal muscles and joints to compensate.
Vancouver Massage Therapy Treatment for Scoliosis
Our muscles a designed to lengthen, shorten, move, protect, and stabilize our skeleton. When the spine is scoliotic, it will cause the paraspinal muscles to be overstretched on one side and shortened on the opposite side. Our massage therapist aims to bring balance to these muscles. Our Vancouver RMTs are experts at assessing and treating muscle tension and imbalances.
Vancouver Chiropractor for Scoliosis
Scoliosis puts extra pressure on your spinal joints because of the atypical curves (and rotations!). As as a result, the facet joints in the spine may not glide and move smoothly, causing back pain, neck pain, hip pain, and headaches. The goal of chiropractic treatment is to promote proper movement of the spine and strengthening the core and spinal muscles with exercise.
