What is Jumper’s knee?
The medical term for jumper’s knee is patellar tendinopathy. It is a common overuse injury that affects the knee. Pain is felt below the knee cap when bending or straightening the knee, especially when using the stairs. There may be swelling around the knee cap and can be sore to the touch. Despite the name of this condition, anyone can develop this injury!
How to care for jumper’s knee at home?
Here are a few basic principles to follow when taking care of jumper’s knee:
Reduce the activity that is bothering your knee until you see improvement. (Example: If you run 3 times a week for 30 minutes, try running once a week for 20 minutes)
Ice the knee for 10 minutes on, and rest for 10 minutes
Stretch the quad muscle (thigh muscle) for 60 seconds
Foam roll the quadricep muscles
If pain persists for more than 2 weeks, it’s time to find a Vancouver chiropractor and Vancouver massage therapist for additional help!
