Cervical Disc Herniation, Chiropractic Treatment and Massage Therapy in Vancouver
Cervical disc herniation is a painful condition that usually involves neck pain, paresthesia (numbness or tingling) or aches into the arm or shoulder. This condition can also be accompanied by weakness in the arms and hand in some cases. This occurs when the disc in between the neck bones (vertebrae) is injured and irritates the cervical nerve roots. The most common nerve roots that are involved are the C5, C6, and C7 nerves. It is common for this condition to start off as regular nerve pain and then slowly spread into the upper extremity. So what can be done? Omni Health and Wellness is prepared to help!
Vancouver Chiropractic Treatment Cervical Disc Herniation
There are several approaches to treating a disc injury based on the severity of the herniation and the amount of pain. When the injury is acute or ‘new’, a gentle and conservative approach is often considered. The goal is to decrease the irritation of the cervical nerve root by decreasing muscle tension, providing decompression of the nerve, and improving posture for optimal alignment of the neck. Nerve gliding exercises and neck stretches will be provided to help unpinch the nerve to promote proper movement of the cervical nerve. MRI or additional testing may be requested.
